April 8 Classes resume
April 19 PD Day; no school for students
English:
Students in 5A and 5B will explore different forms of poetry and write poems to follow the format. Students will also read poems to explore their meaning and the use of figurative language.
French:
Students are working on a novel study, La plus grosse poutine du monde.
Math:
5A and 5B are finishing their studies on algebra, then proceeding to 2 dimensional figures and coordinates.
Religion:
For the remainder of the school year, students will be working through unit 5: Rooted in Dignity and Living our Faith. The outcomes include Catholic social justice principles are rooted in human dignity and call us to action, and the Church guides and supports us as we show love to our neighbor through charity.
Science:
Students will conclude their study unit on Weather. We will be reviewing and studying for the unit test. Outcomes to cover include:
- the effects of solar energy over the course of the day, or the year.
- how different geographical features absorb and release solar energy at different rates.
- the difference between weather and climate.
- how people affect climate, particularly as related to global warming.
- the importance of being able to predict atmospheric conditions, particularly in relation to the clothing and houses we choose.
- the characteristics of different clothing tissues in relation to weather conditions.
Social Studies:
Students are examining Canadian history, post confederation. Topics will include the two World Wars, the Great Depression, the Famous Five, and other topics.
